Schmit began the heretic company's first online venture-then known as AncientWeb.com-with no experience, no computer, and exactly $50 dollars. Struggling to comprehend exactly what he was getting himself into, Ben sat down at his roommate's 68 mhz Mac Performa on 8/16/98 with a copy of "HTML for Dummies" (down to $15.00 by now) and posted an innocuous little document titled, "index.html," on a stolid UNIX server in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, setting-off a strange series of events which has lead the Freakish success of the heretic company. With no advertising, marketing, or merchandising AncientWeb.com served 750,000 unique page views in nearly 350,000 visits in April, 2000, just 18 months after going live. (No Shit) To put these numbers into perspective, Macys.com served just under 350,000 page views in November 1999 (think X-Mas). This startling and rarely-paralleled success speaks to the uniqueness and universality of RememberAncientWeb horoscopes, still the only legitimate horoscopes written in everyday vernacular. Daily spiritual guidance for those not afraid of a little hard truth or the "F-word." In its' first five years online, AncientWeb served well over 50,000,000 page views. Schmit has been through hell and back, and now, after a massive battle with cancer, Ben just can't wait for this shit to pay his bills again. In the meantime, your donations do help. In case you care, Ben was born in a small river town in Minnesota. After acquiring a meaningless B.A. (American History, Music Comp.) and graduating into the post-reagan/bush economy, the illustrious owner/editor of the heretic company screwed around for a number of years in stupid jobs until he found his MoJo. Aside from over two decades of intimate experience and study of Astrology, the Tarot, ancient history, Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, Taoism, Hindu Mythology, Kundalini, drums, World Mythology, and 20 years of high-volume fine dining experience, he also has a half-dozen years of such jobs as flatwork concrete, finish carpentry, interior refurb, retail music sales, historical archive creation, bartending, and various horrifying experiences in corporate hell under his belt. Also, Schmit likes the weed and thinks Alaska is a stone groove.
